Gromit Unleashed Sculpture

The Grand Appeal

June, 2025

My biggest project to date – in both size and hours! I was chosen to paint one of the standing Gromit sculptures in aid of the Grand Appeal charity fundraiser. My Gromit was themed after the Jungle Book and aptly named ‘Mowgli’.

Mowgli began as a series of very rough drawings and a blank sculpture which was much larger than expected- see the photo of me next to it for scale!

I used emulsion paint as this was the best way to keep a limited colour palette and ensure I could colour match to my signed off design. It took a full day to cover the surface area of the sculpture in at least 2 coats of paint. After the base coat, I began the fun bit- adding the animals and foliage, starting with the tiger across one of the sides.

After the design was complete, the sculpture was lacquered, which really brought the colours out and helped to protect the design. My sculpture was situated in Pucklechurch’s The Rose & Crown, where it was viewed in the month of August as part of the Grand Appeal trail.
